An official has confirmed that 28 of the 49 wild horses that live on Cedar Island NC have died as a direct result of storm surge related to Hurricane Dorian.

Manager Woody Hancock confirms that this herd is not a part of the Corolla herd that occupies the Northern Outer Banks.

Many Cedar Island residents are mourning the loss of what they say was part of their heritage and home. Of the 21 wild horses that did survive, were one’s that were strong enough to swim to nearby barrier islands not affected by storm surge.
