This town is a unincorporated census-designated place sitting on Core Sound across from Core Banks with Sea Level and Cedar Island being the closest two neighbors. Because of it’s unincorporated status, this community has no official government and is under the authority of county commissioners. Law enforcement is handled by the local sheriff’s department and highway patrol, and fire, rescue, and EMS services by volunteer organizations.

This community is roughly 0.94 sq miles in area, has the zip code 28511, and is in the 252 area code.
