Do the Carteret County NC beaches have hot air balloon rides and tours? Sadly, no beach community along the southern Outer Banks and Crystal Coast from Atlantic Beach to Emerald Isle, Newport to Morehead City, or Beaufort to Harkers Island has any established businesses which offers this unique service.
While having dinner with an entrepreneur friend of mine who’s lived here all his life, we somehow got in to a discussion about new business opportunities along our coast as a new population of full-time residents and tourist arrive via the new Interstate 42.
In thinking about our unique coast and all the major landmarks people from all over the world come to see, and considering that no other companies offer hot air balloon rides and tours, we agreed this type of business would be a huge success in our area.
So, this article is as much a challenge to anyone having the same vision to start this business, as it is all the amazing possibilities this opportunity offers along the southern Outer Banks.
Imagine being able to drift 2000 feet in the air, no sounds of a helicopter or airplane engine, and taking in the beauty of the Emerald Isle beaches, Atlantic Beach, Beaufort, and the down east communities of Harkers Island and Cedar Island.
Imagine being able to float 2000 feet above Cape Lookout, Shackleford Banks, and the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge and watch the wild horses play and graze on these islands. And, Imagine being able to watch the whales off the coast of Cape Lookout National Seashore for hours as you drift in peace.
For those of us that live here, or visit our beaches regularly, you know there is an amazing ecosystem of wild horses, barrier islands, waterways, beaches, and lighthouses which beg to be enjoyed from the air.
Then imagine being able to continue that journey, driven only by our consistent ocean trade winds through the Pamlico Sound to Ocracoke Island and Cape Hatteras and back to the county.
If you’re a tourist to our community or someone who lives here year-round, we’d love for you to use the no registration discussion form below to discuss all the potential benefits of having a hot air balloon business and service operating in Carteret County.
What are some other specific places along this portion of the NC coast which would be an amazing adventure from the air?
As a professional photographer, surveyor, environmentalist, or nature watcher, what are your thoughts on experiencing our coast from this vantage point?
Aside from the tourism aspect of ballooning, what are some other possibilities this service could offer visitors and locals?
