Cedar Island sits directly on the banks of the Pamlico Sound, Core Sound, and Long Bay and is in the easternmost location of the county.

This location is home to the NC Ferry System that takes people to and from Ocracoke Island and is considered part of Highway 12 that runs through the Outer Banks. Additionally, this island is home to a large national wildlife refuge.
