At a awards ceremony recently, the Commanding General of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing presented four U.S. Marines with the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for their roles in responding to a family caught in a rip current at Atlantic Beach in June of 2018.

The Navy and Marine Corps Medal is the highest peacetime non-combat medal a Marine can receive.

These heroic young men helped saved the life of three people and provided CPR to another member of the family.

From Atlantic Beach, those in attendance were Mayor Trace Cooper, Fire Chief Mike Simpson, Captain J. Scott Bell, & Firefighter Christian Register.
