Garner Farms NCDOT Bridges St Extension Petition. Newport NC News

(Garner Farms in Newport NC): The NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) wants to extend Bridges St Extension in Morehead City NC out to around McCabe Rd in Newport NC to help ease congestion on Hwy 70. Currently, there are three proposals, of which one possibly affecting the area around Garner Farms is causing concern for residents who say it could destroy or severely hurt Garner Farms in Newport NC which they see as having a highly positive impact on western Carteret County and the generational families living in the area who work on the farm to benefit Carteret County. This group started by Tracy Alpert has started a petition to help further their efforts. Other proposals for the Bridges St Extension Project by the NCDOT affect Old Murdoch Rd, Gladys Teasley Lane, and Gloria Dawn Rd.

State officials also say this project will help expand the Industrial Park on Business Drive in Morehead City.

Using the contact form below, let’s have a ongoing discussion about this project.

What are some other possible options to extend Bridges St in Morehead City that would help grow the area, ease congestion on Hwy 70, and help develop the Industrial Park without affecting Garner Farms in Newport NC?

Is this project part of the Interstate 42 corridor project?

Have you signed the petition started by Tracy Alpert? If not, why?

In addition to the Old Murdoch Rd and Gladys Teasley Ln alternatives, what is another possible route that would make more sense?

With the news on Havelock breaking ground on the bypass, Newport looks to see some overwhelming development in the next 5-10 years and then Morehead also looking to expand Bridges extension? I really really have fears for this farm and the produce that I buy from it.

We have to find a way to meet the new population demand and our roads while maintaining the old staples of this community.

Please don’t do this to our farmers.

I hope no disruption to Garner Farms happens. They do a lot of good in the community and have a great pumpkin patch and corn maze for the kids in the fall of every year. It is a great place to shop local and their vegetable and fruit stand is a great place to meet and talk to locals.

Wait, are they talking about extending Bridges St back behind Lidl, where 5 guys is, and all those businesses on Hwy 70 and then merging it with 70 near Garner Farms? There is no doubt something needs to be done about 70 especially when the tourist come in to the area, but why merge it right where one of the county’s most popular farms is? That makes no sense.
