Highway 58 Information For Carteret County NC And Bogue Banks – Interstate 42 Discussions

This section is maintained for up to the minute information as it relates to road closures, vehicle accidents, information pertaining to future widening, evacuations, and other news information.

November 2020: From November 16 through November 20 Highway 58 will be closed while transportation officials fix a storm drain. The road closure will happen near Bucks Corner Road and NCDOT established two detours, one for vehicle traffic and another for tractor-trails and long wheel based trucks. The vehicle detour will utilize Whitehouse fork road and the tractor-trailer detour will utilize U.S. 17, Belgrade-Swansboro Rd and Highway 24.

January and February 2020: Emerald Isle Bridge repairs

January 2020: Initial discussions on a 3rd Bogue Banks bridge near Salter Path and Indian Beach with the potential for Highway 58 widening. This will be 5-8 years out.

Emerald Isle is a 20 minute drive from Atlantic Beach. Stella is a 10 minute drive from Emerald Isle.

In Indian Beach, Pine Knoll Shores, and Salter path, there is access to convenience stores and small retail stores, while in in Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle there is more commercial grocery stores, banking, and other retail stores.

In Cedar Point and Cape Carteret, there is considerable shopping, banking, and retail stores.

In Peletier and Stella there are convenience stores and small retail stores. Stella is a 7 minute drive to Cape Carteret.

Schools: Croatan High School, White Oak Elementary, and Bogue Sound Middle School for those in Emerald Isle, Cape Carteret, Peletier, and Stella. West Carteret High School, Morehead City Primary, Morehead Elementary, and Morehead Middle School for those in Indian Beach, Salter Path, Pine Knoll Shores, and Atlantic Beach.
