Newport, NC police say that both men were reportedly involved in some type of physical altercation prior to the shooting. Police gave no indication if the altercation involved drugs or alcohol, or if Durner and Orr were living at or visiting the Hostess House.
James Durner is charged with one open count of murder and is currently in the Carteret County jail on no bond and will have a first appearance before a judge in District Court on Monday, October 22, 2018.
The suspect is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, or accepts a plea deal.
