This is a community discussion article and list of known military bases in the State of NC from Elizabeth City, Jacksonville, Fayetteville, Havelock, Atlantic Beach, Charlotte, Southport, and Goldsboro.
Readers are encouraged to use the no registration discussion form below to discuss information about the military bases below, in addition to alerting us to any installations we missed in this article. Especially with the Coast Guard, we realize there are several satellite and support installations along the coast which we do not have a heading for below.
Furthermore, we’re hoping to hear from active duty personnel and retired Veterans about detailed and specific information relating to each of these installations, along with any information someone being newly stationed locally might like to know.

Fort Bragg Army Base In Fayetteville
Home of home of the Army’s XVIII Airborne Corps, headquarters of U.S. Army Special Forces Command which oversees the 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) and 75th Ranger Regiment. Continuing, Fort Bragg is home to U.S. Army Forces Command, U.S. Army Reserve Command, Womack Army Medical Center, Pope Field, and several other supporting installations in Fayetteville, NC.

Camp Lejeune Marine Corps In Jacksonville
Home to Marine Corps Air Station New River, Camp Geiger, Stone Bay, Courthouse Bay, Camp Johnson, Bogue Field, Greater Sandy Run Training Area all which support the II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, and 20 other resident commands including Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC.
Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point In Havelock
Cherry Point is located in Havelock, NC and is home to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, NADEP, and FRC-East
Seymour Johnson Air Force Base In Goldsboro
Seymour Johnson is home to the Fifteenth Air Force of the Air Combat Command (ACC) and 4th Fighter Wing in Goldsboro, NC.
Coast Guard Air Station In Elizabeth City
Home of the Aviation Logistics Center, Aviation Technical Training Center, Small Boat Station Elizabeth City, C27J APO, and National Strike Force (NSF). In addition to the Elizabeth City installation, the U.S. Coast Guard maintains several support bases in Atlantic Beach, NC, Emerald Isle, Jacksonville, Wilmington, and the Outer Banks.
National Guard 145th Airlift Wing In Charlotte
The 134th Airlift Wing is located at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and maintains a fleet of C-17 Globemaster airlift aircraft in support of 145th Operations Group, 156th Airlift Squadron – C-17 Globemaster III, 156th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, 118th Air Support Operations Squadron, and the 145th Security Forces Squadron.
Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point In Southport
The U.S. Army Military Terminal Sunny Point in Southport, NC is the world’s largest military terminal and functions as a transfer station for cars, trucks, tanks, and other assets onto boats for transport over open water.
Eastern NC is home to 2 of the largest military bases (Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune) in the United States, and home to the largest support terminal (Sunny Point) in the world. Considering the U.S. Coast Guard, command and support installations dot the coast in support of drug interdiction, search and rescue, and other support roles.
The military in North Carolina is very much a part of the local economy and supports tens of thousands of civilian contractors.
