Mill Creek Road Fire Near Newport NC. Visible Smoke Seen All Over The County

9:10 p.m. Officials in Newport say the 40 acre fire burning this evening is now contained.

9:00 p.m. The forestry service is currently dropping fire retardant chemicals on this fire from the air.

8:30 p.m. – Carteret County Schools announced no bus routes from Highway 101 to the Newport prison due to this wildfire.

New Information: People on scene are reporting that nobody is being allowed in or out of Mill Creek and that traffic is at a standstill. Ashes are reportedly falling on cars.

(Breaking) (August 2019) Do you see lots of smoke over Newport NC?

There is a large fire off Mill Creek Rd in that area. This is breaking and we will have more information about how large the fire is and what municipal fire departments are responding to the fire.

Initial reports are that the fire is located in a wooded area, but we have no information if any homes in the Mill Creek area are being affected.

Citizens are reporting that a large plume of smoke can be seen from Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, and Beaufort.
