Update August 2019: The Morehead City Marlins baseball team have won the Petitt Cup Championship (Coastal Plain League) for the second year in a row
The Morehead City Marlins won the Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup beating out High Point-Thomasville HiToms at Big Rock Stadium in August of 2018. The Marlins bested the HiToms with a 7-4 win.

Coastal Plain League (CPL) chairman and CEO Jerry Petitt presented the trophy to owner Buddy Bengel amid wild celebration by players and fans alike.
“Anytime you get a chance to win a championship on your own home field, it’s special,” he said. “And this group of guys really played their hearts out all summer. They battled ups and downs. It has been an amazing, amazing experience.” – Owner Buddy Bengel
This win represents the first championship for the Morehead City Marlins since the 2010 opening year for this summer league franchise.
An estimated 2,103 fans were in attendance at Big Rock Stadium.
