Morehead City police officer Tracy Bruno was taken to Carteret Health Care for injuries she sustained during a call to Rack Room Shoes in Morehead City on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Officials say that officer Bruno was responding to a call, made contact with Jonathan Parrish during her investigation, some type of altercation happened, and Mr. Bruno sped away in his 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. Reports indicate that a call for assistance was made to police over reports of “a suspicious person acting erratically in Rack Room Shoes.”
Upon arriving at the scene, officer Bruno approached suspect Parrish, he walked away from her, entered his vehicle, and then drove away from the scene. While driving away, he allegedly hit officer Bruno forcing her on to the hood of the SUV. Officer Bruno was then taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
After this incident, felony arrest warrants were issues for Jonathan Parrish, and Morehead City police officials requested assistance from the NC SBI Missing Person and Fugitive Task Force in locating Mr. Parrish.
At 11:00 pm, Morehead City police along with Carteret County Multi-Agency SRT and the NC SBI Missing Person and Fugitive Task Force arrested the suspect on Eudora Drive in Newport, NC.
The suspect was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, felony hit and run causing injury and several traffic offenses.
He was jailed in the Carteret County Detention Center on a $60,000 bond, but that bond was raised to $150,000 after his first appearance in court. No information was given on which judge raised the bond on the suspect.
The suspect should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law or accepts a plea deal.
