  • Internal linking to other content on your website is crucial. Not only does it help with search crawl efforts, it will in time build authority to linked pages. When writing any page on your website, include two internal links to content on your site, as well as one outgoing link to a website that is closely relevant to what your page is about.     I still see small businesses using social media and SEO grow to grow their business. That should not be happening in 2019 especially with big national brands throwing millions of dollars in to marketing and advertising on the Internet.

    In rural areas, this is even more of an issue. Any national or international company today can use media to reach any rural region in this state.

    A lot of NC businesses were sold on the idea that social media work on Facebook and Twitter is enough, but the reality is that more people are going to find your business on the Internet using local pages and search on Google.

    And, the average web designer today is not taking ecommerce and SEO in to the realm of structured data, accelerated mobile pages, data highlighting, and other tools that can exponentially give greater visibility on the Internet.

    Businesses need to learn that after the pretty website is built, there is still a lot of work to be done for that website to stand out in the crowd.

    I still see a lot of NC businesses, many dependent of tourism, not embracing technology and realizing that sales and services are no longer defined by county lines.

    Using the Internet, a competitor 70 miles away can still get consumers locally interested in their products, services, and build relationships with them.

    It used to be that if you wanted to grow in to new markets, then you had to spend a lot of money on marketing in those regions using newspapers, billboards, local magazines, TV/radio ADs, and putting someone on the ground in that market to talk to consumers. Today, all that development can centrally be done via your ecommerce website or social media. And still, very few NC business owners wake up daily and create new content that is available globally once published. I just don’t get it.
