BACKGROUND

Carteret County NC is largely driven by tourism in the Spring, Summer, and Fall months when employers locally typically need extra help and look for college students and high school students who are teenagers to fill this gap.

The projected growth in population, new employers, and new businesses for this coastal NC community is expected to grow sharply as the Interstate 42 project nears completion. This interstate will decrease the driving time to our beach communities from areas like Raleigh, Wilson, Smithfield, and Chapel Hill.

It is very common for college students at UNC Chapel Hill, NC State, and Duke to spend the summer locally and thus needing temporary summer jobs or internships.

Additionally, while usually not considered temporary work, a great need for construction type skilled trades in the county are expected to be extremely plentiful as new technology, new homes, and new businesses proliferate locally, all directly related to Interstate 42 and growth at Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune Marine Corps installations. This could very well lead to employers needing temporary help locally.

In addition to using this database, job seekers and employers are encouraged to use the NC Employment Security Commission in their hunt for work or positions that need to be filled.

In addition to traditional work, Duke Marine Lab, UNC Marine Sciences, and NC State Marine Lab have internships available to students.

Positions Usually Needed In Tourism Dependent Areas of NC

Wait staff, dishwashers, retail sales outlets, resorts, hotels, and motels, specialty tourism related businesses, bars and restaurants, movie theaters, and some local municipalities in Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, Beaufort, Pine Knoll Shores, and Emerald Isle hire summer temporary workers to manage parks and recreation facilities and special events in the county.

Part-time work in Carteret County NC is in abundance in the late Spring, Summer, and early Fall months.
