Programs Underway To Get Ready For The New Economy

While our county has always been largely a tourism dependent area, and considering the Interstate 42 corridor project, we believe the Crystal Coast region and beaches are poised to see a major influx of new investors, businesses, residents, and other industry who will call this area home.

Projections related to the new interstate shows the county increasing it’s full-time resident and business growth by 30% or more. As a result, local municipalities and other government and business interests are gearing up for downtown, housing, and subdivision revitalization efforts in order to attract more investors, industries, and residents which will have a profound impact on the local economy, look, and feel of this area.

Additionally, Carteret County NC will continue to see a greater number of tourism season visitors to the county as the interstate nears completion and as access to the local area becomes easier from places near the Triad of NC.

With all of this in mind, we’re interested in hearing from current residents, new potential residents, businesses, organizations, agencies, and government officials about plans in Morehead City, Beaufort, Newport, Atlantic Beach, and Emerald Isle regarding the current state of development relating to revitalization efforts.

Specifically, what programs, initiatives, grants, and other funding is currently available to public interests who wish take part in this effort?

What new subdivisions and neighborhoods are currently under construction, or will see construction related to improvement of these properties?

What new laws or amendments to current laws will have to be addressed in order to meet guidelines around improving and modernizing properties already built? As an example, we know many communities have restrictions on how high a building can be, or how many floors a building can have. As more people move in to the area, we surmise land available for new construction will become an issue and developers will need to build higher to accomodate these needs.

What specific efforts are underway or proposed for downtown areas within the county?

What are some efforts. or proposed efforts, underway to repair existing schools and build new schools?

What efforts are underway to address new housing construction, the construction of new businesses, apartment complexes, and for low income housing in the county?

What is the current state of addressing beachfront properties and beaches which will see improvement efforts?

What agencies and organizations are currently in place to help investors and new businesses fund new revitilation efforts in Carteret County municipalities? What grants are currently available to entities wishing to build or improve upon new housing, neighborhoods, and subdivisions?

How will downtown areas in Morehead City, Beaufort, Newport, Atlantic Beach, and Emerald Isle change or be redeveloped?

    Developers, county administrators, and municipal administrators have got to find a way to grow to meet the new influx of people while at the same time maintaining the feel of this area or we are doomed in my opinion.

    Vacationers always come to the Morehead City and Beaufort downtown areas for the specific purpose of enjoying our quiet, quaint, and clean beaches and waters.

    Revitalization is a good thing, but please keep the same look and feel.
