Local Area Information
Newport NC is a small town in western Carteret County NC that borders Havelock in Craven County, Morehead City, Mill Creek, and Broad Creek.
The local area is largely residential, but the town does have a downtown area with commercial businesses on Chatham St and Howard Blvd.
Highway 70 runs through the heart of the town from east to west and connects the area with Morehead City and Havelock.
Highway 24 runs from east to west and connects the area with Broad Creek, Bogue, Cape Carteret, and Morehead City.
Mill Creek Rd connects the local area with the community of Mill Creek.
Considerable portions of the Croatan National Forest borders the community and offers residents and visitors ample recreation.
Bogue Sound is a large body of water that borders the area along Highway 24.
The major shopping area for the town is at the corner of Highway 70 and Howard Blvd and Nine Foot Rd.
There is no hospital in the town. Residents are served by Carteret Health Care in Morehead City.
The N.C. Department of Corrections operates a small work camp on Mill Creek Rd.
