Troubleshooting Service Disruptions
When having connection issues or intermittent connectivity, please unplug your DSL or broadband router and leave it off for 3 minutes. Also, turn all connected devices off.
After 3 minutes, turn your router back on and wait for 4 minutes. Then, turn your device on and let the device automatically connect or manually connect to it.
Additionally, be sure to check to make sure that the cable is securely connected to the router or that the phone line on a DSL router is securely connected in to the jack on the router and wall.
Still no Internet? At this point, write down which lights are solid and which are blinking before contacting your local service provider and reporting the outage to them and us.
Also, remember that most municipalities in Carteret County NC have considerable outages after major storms like we see with a tropical storm or hurricane and it can take up to 1 week for those lines to be repaired. If you venture outside after a storm attempting to troubleshoot a connection and find a line down, please do not attempt to touch it or repair it. Please treat all downed lines as if they are live and are electrical.
If you need stable Internet when there is a hurricane or tropical storm, then we urge you to consider getting an account with one of the satellite providers during hurricane season as a backup.
If you are a business in the county, which providers have you found stable for business class Internet?
Of the broadband providers locally, which have you found to be highly reliable, stable, or have good customer service that fixes problems the first time calling them or when a technician comes out to repair your service?
The only broadband service providers that we know about in the Carteret County NC communities of Morehead City, Beaufort, Newport, Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, and areas down east near Harkers Island for broadband service is Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable and Road Runner) and Centurylink DSL.
