The Carteret County Sheriffs Department released information today that a skeleton was found in Peletier NC by hunters near Winsett Lane and Peletier Loop Road. The public release went on to say that the families of Kristen Bennett and Linwood Sanders have been notified of this information as both are still considered to be missing persons cases in the county.
November 1, 2018 Update: The Sheriff’s Department released a public update saying that the skeletal remains found in Peletier are that of a male subject and that foul play is not suspected.
The skeletal remains are being transported to Vidant Memorial Hospital where an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, October 30, 2018. The Carteret County Sheriffs Department is reporting that it is impossible to tell if the remains are male or female.
As you may recall, Kristen Bennett is a young woman who police allege was murdered by her boyfriend last month and the whereabouts of her body is still a mystery. Detectives in this matter have the alleged killer of Ms. Bennett in custody and there are no reports if he gave information to them in this matter.
Linwood Sanders is reportedly a 49 year homeless male that went missing on 9/20/2018 and is also reportedly from the Peletier NC area.
Police emphasize that the skeleton is NOT a clear indication that the remains are related to Kristen Bennett or Linwood Sanders.
Updates to this information will be added to the article as they are released.
If you have any information about either of these two missing persons, or information about the remains found in Peletier, you are encouraged to call Detectives with the Sheriffs Department at (252) 728-8400.
Is there an official announcement from the Sheriff’s office? I am seeing purported family members on social media saying that it is not Kristen.
I don’t see an official announcement and I am seeing the same thing on social media. Not saying the posts on Facebook aren’t legitimate but it’s best to wait for official confirmation.
