Steven George O’Neill arrested on second degree forcible rape and first degree kidnapping after Carteret County sheriff’s deputies were called to a Newport NC residence on Tom Mann Rd where they spoke with a woman who said that Mr. O’Neill had held her against her will in a locked room and raped her.
The witness reported to deputies that the suspect assaulted her repeatedly over a period of four days. The Special Response Team of the Carteret County Sheriffs Office responded to the Newport residence where further investigation was conducted and evidence secured.
Mr. O’Neill was treated at Carteret Health Care after his arrest and then booked in to county jail on a one million dollar bond and will have a first appearance within a week.
The woman reporting this incident was treated at the scene by county paramedics.
Steven O’Neill is considered innocent until convicted in a court of law.
